ARLINGTON FIRE JOURNAL
Welcome to the ARLINGTON FIRE JOURNAL & RED BOOK! This web log - AKA "blog" - is an extension of a newsletter ("ARLINGTON FIRE JOURNAL") and a book (``RED BOOK'') about the history of the fire and rescue service in Arlington County, Virginia, located across the Potomac River from Washington, DC. The Arlington County Fire Department was "first due" at the Pentagon, which is located in Arlington, on Sept. 11, 2001. The ARLINGTON FIRE JOURNAL, which made its debut in 1999 as an independent newsletter, is published in cooperation with the Arlington County Fire Department Historical Society, the Arlington County Fire & Rescue Association and the Arlington County Fire Department. Founded in 1940, the fire department operates 10 stations with a career staff of 305 and is a signatory to the Northern Virginia Regional Response Plan - NOVA. The paid firefighters are supplemented by the volunteers of the fire & rescue association. Your editor, Vinny Del Giudice, served as a volunteer fireman and EMT from 1985-1992. E-mail: wb2kqg@arrl.net
